Jens-Erik Mai holds a MSc in library and information science (1994) from the Royal School of Library and Information Science, Denmark and a PhD in information science (2000) from the University of Texas at Austin, USA. He has held positions at the University of Washington, USA as assistant professor (2000-2006) and co-director of the Center for Human-Information Interaction (2003-2006), at the University of Toronto, Canada as associate professor (2006-2012) and vice-dean (2006-2009), and at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark as full professor (2012- ) and head of the Department of Information Studies (2017-2019) and after a merger as head of the Department of Communication (2019- ).
